First days

I've now been at Dancing Rabbit (DR) a couple of days, and I'm beginning to settle in. Below is a drawing of the first building constructed at DR.

I'm living in a tent while working on the interior of a timberframe building owned by Jennifer Martin, the person I am interning for. I'll be doing some plumbing, radiant heating work, earthen plaster for the interior walls, flooring, all of which will involve elements of design and construction.

So far the food has been delicious (all vegetarian, mostly vegan) and the weather has been hot. I survived my first thunderstorm in my tent last night - I even came out dry.

Alex (Olin '11.5) arrived yesterday, and we'll be starting work very soon.

This Summer

My blog is up and running again for this summer. In case you haven't yet heard, I will be working as a natural building intern at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, near Rutledge, Missouri. You should check out their website if that sounds interesting. More to come on what I'm actually doing, but it will involve the following things:
  • being part of a local organic vegan food co-op (awesome, right?)
  • working outside with my hands and getting really dirty (natural means mud and straw and the like)
  • living in a tent and using off-grid electricity
I'm leaving for Missouri tomorrow morning. More to come soon.
